The word ‘Halloween’ has originated around the year 1745 and has been heavily influenced by the Scots and the Irish. The word has its roots in the Scottish term for ‘All Hallows’ Eve’ which means ‘the evening before ‘All Hallows Day’. The term ‘eve’ means even in Scottish and this was shortened to ‘een’. As time passed this ‘All Hallows Eve’ evolved into what is
known today as ‘Halloween’. All customs related to Halloween have been inspired by the folk beliefs and customs of Celtic-speaking regions. Though some have traced the origin of this event to the Roman feast of Pomona, the goddess of seeds and fruits and yet others to the festival of the deadit is majorly linked to the festival of Samhain associated with the Celts.
